Smart Monitoring Consultation

Smart Monitoring — When Sensors Pay Back, And When They Don't.

Wireless fullness sensors on your compactor sound great in a brochure. For some operations, they cut haul costs 15–30%. For others, the monthly monitoring fee eats every dollar saved. We'll tell you the truth either way.

What smart monitoring actually does

Smart compactor monitoring uses an ultrasonic or pressure sensor mounted inside the unit, paired with a cellular radio, to track fullness in real time. Instead of running on a fixed schedule (e.g., every Tuesday and Friday), you call for haul-outs only when the unit is genuinely full.

For high-volume operations with variable usage patterns — like grocery stores during seasonal swings or distribution centers with cyclical inbound — this can dramatically reduce unnecessary pickups and fuel surcharges.

When it pays back

  • You generate variable waste volumes week-to-week
  • You're currently on a fixed pickup schedule
  • You have multiple locations with different fullness curves
  • Your hauler charges per-pull rather than per-ton
  • You'd save more than the monitoring fee in cancelled pulls

When it doesn't

  • Your waste volume is stable and predictable
  • You're already on an as-needed pickup schedule
  • Your hauler bills on weight, not pulls
  • The monitoring fee exceeds realistic savings

The honest math

Monitoring services typically run $25–$60 per unit per month. To break even, you need to eliminate at least one pickup every 1–2 months — depending on what your hauler charges per pull.

For a high-volume retail operation paying $400 per pull on a fixed schedule with 30% wasted capacity, monitoring saves real money. For a small office complex on as-needed pickup already, it doesn't.

We'll do the actual math with your actual numbers — no marketing pitch.

What we offer

We don't manufacture monitoring hardware. What we do is help you evaluate the technology against your specific operation, recommend platforms that fit, and coordinate installation with your equipment. We work with the major monitoring providers and stay vendor-neutral on which one fits best.

How to think about it

Smart monitoring is a tool. It's neither magic nor a scam. It's an information layer that lets you optimize your hauling schedule based on actual fullness rather than assumed fullness. Whether that information is worth the monthly fee depends entirely on how variable your waste is and how your hauler bills.

No-pressure evaluation

Send us your last three months of hauling invoices and a description of your operation. We'll tell you within a few days whether smart monitoring would pencil out for you. If it does, we'll help you implement. If it doesn't, we'll tell you that too — and probably suggest one or two other ways to cut hauling costs that don't involve technology.
